Vietnam Launches 50-Day Campaign to Issue E-Identification for Foreign Residents

Hanoi – Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security has launched a nationwide 50-day campaign to issue Level 2 electronic identification (e-ID) accounts for foreigners living in the country, starting July 1, 2025. The initiative is part of the government’s broader push for digital transformation and administrative reform, aiming to simplify procedures for expatriates.
Pilot Program Shows Promising Results
Colonel Nguyen Ba Tuan, Deputy Director of the Immigration Department, stated that a pilot program had been successfully tested before the official rollout. As of now, 333 applications have been processed, with the system operating smoothly.
Focused 50-Day Implementation Drive
The special campaign, running from July 1 to August 19, 2025, will streamline the issuance process to ensure faster and more convenient access for foreigners. The e-ID system will help them complete administrative tasks such as visa extensions, banking, healthcare access, and legal procedures with greater ease.
Key Step in Vietnam’s Digital Transformation
The move aligns with the Vietnamese government’s strategy to accelerate digitalization and improve public services. By providing secure digital identities, authorities aim to enhance both foreigner management and the overall ease of doing business and tourism in Vietnam.
The Immigration Department has published multilingual guidelines to assist applicants, encouraging eligible foreigners to register promptly. Analysts say this development could boost Vietnam’s appeal as a regional hub for expatriates and investors.
